(UPDATE) 2012 NC Residential Code Available Online

NCHBA is pleased to report that the 2012 North Carolina Residential Building Code has been posted on-line.  This new code becomes effective on Thursday (03/01/12). This online version is a copy that has been sent to the publisher that includes the ad-hoc amendments to the code, the amendments addressing SL2011-269 and the abridged mechanical, plumbing and fuel gas code that has been inserted within the book.

While the ICC will not have published the code in its traditional book format by Thursday, the on-line version will allow general contractors, code enforcement officials, other industry professionals, and the general public to view the code in its entirety. Consequently, there is no legal basis to withhold building permits as several jurisdictions have recently threatened to do.

NCHBA has been working closely with officials of the NC Department of Insurance, the Governor’s Office, and the leadership of the General Assembly to resolve this impending crisis.
