BASE Announces Leadership for 2016, Newman Named President & CEO
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Business Alliance for a Sound Economy, an advocacy organization promoting investment in Southeastern North Carolina, has announced its Board of Directors for 2016. Additionally, the organization has named Tyler Newman President & CEO, effective January 1.
“We are planning for a big year,” Chairman Brian Eckel said. “We have a group of members and associations really interested in working together for the economic health of the region.”

“I’m looking forward to leading the organization,” said new President & CEO Tyler Newman. “With the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and Brunswick Association of REALTORS®, we landed two new major partners in 2015. We are planning to carry that momentum into 2016 by continuing to focus on the policy issues that impact investment in our region.”
Most recently, Newman had served as BASE’s Interim CEO and Senior Governmental Affairs Director. He previously was the City of Wilmington’s Special Assistant to the City Manager-Legislative Affairs and Regulatory Affairs Director for the Home Builders Association of Georgia. A New Bern native, Newman graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Established in 2003, Business Alliance for a Sound Economy (BASE) is an organization focused on encouraging investment in Southeastern North Carolina. BASE represents numerous individual business members, and also provides government affairs services to several regional trade associations including the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association, Brunswick County Home Builders Association, Brunswick County Association of REALTORS®, Jacksonville Board of REALTORS® and Topsail Island Association of REALTORS®.
