USDA Extends “Rural” Definition

ALERT: USDA has issued a notice extending the current “rural” definition until March 27, 2013 (previously October 1, 2012) to correspond with the expiration of the FY13 Continuing Resolution. If a legislative solution does not occur by March 27, 2013, the definition will expire.

While this is good news, we will continue to focus on a long-term solution when Congress returns in November for the lame duck session.  It is worth mentioning that Congress may not act in the lame duck session and choose to hold hearings in the New Year in order to examine this issue further and propose changes to the USDA program.
