2012 Primary Candidates

Well last week we saw the 2012 primary filing deadline come and go, and as usual things got interesting the last week, days, and minutes before it closed at noon.  We have 10 candidates vying for three spots for New Hanover County Commissioner, and in District 3 in Brunswick County we have at least four candidates vying for incumbent Charles Warren’s seat.  In Onslow County we have all five commissioner seats up for grabs, and sixteen – yes 16 candidates have filed.  In Pender the only challenge will be District 4, where F.D. Rivenbark will face Republican candidate Fred McCoy.

On the State level taking a look at the Senate reveals that 31 out of the 50 Senate races are contested with Republicans virtually guaranteed to win 11 of those seats because there is no Democrat filed. Democrats have a similar guarantee in 8 Senate districts because there is no Republican.  On the House side there are 71 races with at least one Democrat and one Republican filed. There are 25 districts where only GOP candidates have filed and 22 districts where only Democrats have filed. This only brings us up to 118 of the 120 House Seats.  The last two slots are where only a Libertarian is signed up to run against a candidate.

Below is a complete breakdown County by County of the 2012 candidate filings.
