Primary Election Wrap-up!

U.S. SENATE

Republican Incumbent Richard Burr defeated fellow Republicans Eddie Burks, Larry Linney, and Brad Jones, while on the Democratic side, Elaine Marshall, and Cal Cunningham, both garnered enough votes to beat Ken Lewis, Ann Worthy, Susan Harris, and Marcus W. Williams.  However it looks inevitable that both Elaine Marshall, and Call Cunningham will have a runoff to decide who moves on to the General Election to face Burr.

U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
In the United States House of Representatives, Democrat Incumbent Mike McIntyre will square off against Ilario Pantano the winner of the Republican primary.

N.C. SENATE
District 8 - Columbus, Pender, & Brunswick Counties
Republican Bill Rabon handily beat Bettie Fennell and now will face Democrat David Redwine in the General election to represent constituents in Brunswick, Pender, and Columbus Counties.

District 9 - New Hanover County Republican Thom Goolsby defeated fellow Republican Michael Lee and now Goolsby will have to face off against Democrat candidate Jim Leutze and potentially Kristi Tomey who is running as an independent.

N.C. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
District 17 - Brunswick County Incumbent Republican Rep. Frank Iler handily defeated fellow Republican Mac Tyson and on the Democratic side James Knox defeated Leonard Jenkins now both will face off as well in the general election.

District 18- New Hanover County Republican Beth Dawson narrowly defeated J. Michael Hudson for the Republican seat.  While at the same time Democratic candidate Susi Hamilton narrowly defeated fellow Democrat James L. Utley.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
On the Republican side Rick Catlin garnered enough votes to move on to the General election.  However fellow Republican and Incumbent County Commissioner Bill Caster faced stiff competition from fellow Republicans Brian Berger.  Based upon the vote tally it looks like there may potentially be a runoff between Bill Caster and Brian Berger to decide who moves on to the general election.  On the Democratic side Deborah Butler, and Former Sheriff Sid Causey, both secured enough votes to make it through the primary.

Voters also narrowly approved the quarter of cent sales tax increase that was on the ballot.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
Incumbent Republican County Commissioner Phil Norris defeated fellow Republican Corrine McCray in District 1.  In District 2, Incumbent Republican Commissioner Marty Cooke, Jr. defeated fellow Republican Randy Sullivan.

PENDER COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
In District 1 County Commissioner Republican Incumbent David Williams defeated fellow Republican William Lenfestey, and now will face Democrat Jerry Taylor in the general election. In District 2 Republicans Chester Ward, barely came out on top against, Timothy Thomas and Waymoth Batts, so there most likely will be a runoff between Mr. Ward and Mr. Thomas.
